This is for you if
Bigger than boundaries. What you say and what you feel are two different things.
Saying no can feel paralyzing. Even when something doesn't feel right, voicing it can bring up anxiety, guilt, or fear of how the other person will respond.
Minimizing your needs has become the standard. You tell yourself it's not a big deal. You can handle it. You don't want to be difficult. So you accommodate, adjust, and move on.
You agree to things you do not want to do because disappointing someone feels worse than inconveniencing yourself.
You avoid conflict, even when someone has hurt you, because confronting it feels terrifying and you fear their response.
Certain people make you feel almost lost for words and anxious when you try to set a boundary.
Being liked, approved of, or seen as a good person feels deeply important to you.
You adapt, perform, or become what you think another person wants in order to maintain connection.
You give more than you want to give, then find yourself depleted, unseen, or resentful when your own needs are not met.
The Deeper Pattern
The problem may not be knowing where the boundary is.
Most people who struggle with boundaries already know when something does not feel right.
They know they are exhausted.
They know they do not want to go.
They know they need more space.
They know something is asking too much of them.
The difficult part is what saying no represents.
Will they be disappointed?
Will they think differently of me?
Will they become angry?
Will they leave?
Will I still be loved if I stop being what they want me to be?
Sometimes the fear beneath a boundary is not conflict. It is the fear that being fully yourself could cost you connection.
Go Beneath the Boundary
Why saying no can feel
like losing yourself.
Move from: "How do I make sure they aren't disappointed?"
to: "Can I remain true to myself even if they are, without having to manage their emotions."
